I don’t know about you but I love buttons. No, it’s not some weird fetish. It’s just a warm memory of my Grandma. She had humongous jar of buttons. Actually it probably wasn’t that big but everything seems bigger when your a kid. I used to love to look at the buttons when I visited her. I would pour then out and sort them. You can do a lot with buttons. There are different shapes, sizes , colors and textures.

I now have have my own button collection although not as big as my grandmas. My daughter loves to look at them. She will sort them and tell me what color they are, which ones are here favorites etc.

We use them for word bingo. A great spelling/reading game.

We also use then for math checkers. And once for a Medieval History craft project we made button bracelets. Can’t find the picture for the life of me though. We learned that buttons were a status symbol for wealth and people sewed them to their clothes for decoration. See I ‘m not the only one who loves buttons.

Bryn read his firsts book on Tueday. He is so proud. He read the first Bob Book in package A. And know he reads all the red (4) books although Mac has more sight words in it so it’s a little harder.
He has also gotten through the whole alphabet in his writing practice and is now doing copy work with full sentences.
It’s so fun to see the lights go on and to see them get so excited! This is why we home school.

B’s finished product.

We started the True Name of the King yesterday. This was the first time I’ve lead a painting. It was fun and the boys pictures turned out really nice. We will be painting part two today and reading part three. We should finished up right before we take a couple days off for Thanksgiving.

I have started re-reading the guides again and must say I find it helpful. Re-reading them helps me focus and re-evaluate if things are really supporting us or not. I have completely dropped circle time right now and have been thinking about how to incorporate some of the academic activities into our day. I am still singing some of the seasonal songs during our walk but the formal circle was becoming very dis-integrating. And getting our day off to a bad start.
